Phyllis Jean Baptiste Alfred was the seventh child born to Hansom Prentice Baptiste, Sr. and Eula Mae Baptiste in Beaumont, Texas on August 13, 1952.

Upon graduating from Charlton-Pollard High School with honors, she attended Lamar University and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.  She also worked for Kenneth Goolsby of AGS Tent Rentals, owner, good friend, and brother-in-Christ for twelve years.  Phyllis was an accomplished seamstress with many satisfied customers, including Comet Cleaners of Beaumont and Lumberton.

Phyllis is survived by her son Baron P Alfred (Darnita), daughter Patricia Alfred, grandson Sedrick Alfred and granddaughter Arielle Redeaux.  Brothers:  Hansom P. Baptiste, Jr. (Leslie), Bannister J. Baptiste (Marilyn), Edward L. Baptiste; Sisters:  Patricia McDonald (John), Evonne Tarver (Lester) and Linda Mercier.  She leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a loving church family to remember her with much love and affection.

Phyllis was a faithful member of the Dowlen Road Church of Christ for thirty-three years.  She loved her service to God by serving others.

Her family and close friends were privy to her wit and amusing comedic sayings.  She loved to play Scrabble and was very competitive.  “Watch Out!”  Also, one of her favorite pastimes was watching Agatha Christie mystery shows.  She was known as the creative one in the family, as she oftentimes composed beautiful cards and letters for one’ special day.  She did all with humility and love.
